When Florens-Louis Heidsieck founded Piper-Heidsieck in 1785, his vision was anything but ordinary: to create wines brimming with the joy, elegance, and audacity of life. For over two centuries, this ambition has defined the Maison’s story.
Today, under the creative helm of Émilien Boutillat, that same spirit continues to thrive, seriously crafting wines that smile.
EMILIEN BOUTILLAT, OUR CHIEF WINEMAKER
At the heart of Piper-Heidsieck’s evolution is Émilien Boutillat, a Chief Winemaker shaped by a duality: deep-rooted Champenoise heritage paired with a global perspective honed through international experience. With a rare blend of expertise in viticulture and oenology, he brings fresh energy, shaking up the house’s heritage.
By orchestrating the rhythm of the vineyards with innovative techniques, he strives daily to make the highest-quality wines possible means minimizing their environmental impact. That mindset is integral to Emilien’s thinking as he plays a major part within the house on addressing CSR issues. As he led Piper-Heidsieck’s successful initiative to achieve B Corp certification.
Giving his actions meaning is essential for this passionate, determined man who relaxes by performing as part of a Reims-based improv theatre group he joined many years ago. It stimulates the creativity he uses every day in his work to meet the current challenges in Champagne.
